Emerging Product Designers Exhibit Latest Projects During takween’s Fellowship Exhibition

Celebrating the end of a 7-month training, mentorship, and internship program focusing on the development of locally-made physical and digital products.

Amman – After completing takween’s intensive training and mentorship Product Design Fellowship program, 26 young and mid-career designers from Jordan will exhibit the final outcomes of their 7-month journey in a celebratory exhibition between October 11 – 15, 2022.

takween’s Product Design Fellowship was created in 2021 as a proactive effort to aid designers and creatives in Jordan after the COVID-19 pandemic. In its second iteration, the Fellowship was expanded to include two specialized streams for product design. The first stream sheds focus on physical product design, including the development of consumer products, was facilitated by Jordanian designer Qusai Malahmeh. The second stream focused on digital product design, such as creating digital services through apps, websites and UI/UX design, was facilitated by Jordanian designer Ala’a Ali.

The program included an intensive 102-hour diverse modular learning program focusing on the intersections of economic, social, and environmental sustainability in product design. Subjects tackled were among others entrepreneurship, design ergonomics and service design or financing and sustainable design thinking. The modules were presented by experts working within the Jordanian or regional ecosystem.

Each fellow was then matched with trailblazing local businesses and organizations working in the field of digital or physical product design. The fellows engaged in an immersive 200-hour internship with takween’s partners and gained hands-on experiences dealing with clients, design challenges and the development of products and services.

Fellows were also connected with expert mentors, who throughout the training program, were guiding the young designers through their personal ventures into developing the final original products. The results of the whole program, including the end products, learning journeys and experiments will be put on full display during takween’s upcoming Product Design Fellowship Exhibition.
